20th April 2019 Hello! It has been a very long time since we posted anything here. This isn't because we've been lazy...no, no. In fact, we have been as busy as bees! We have been working on a new album for the last twelve months and we are soon to begin the process of recording it. We are extremely pleased with the way the new songs are sounding and the direction we are taking...needless to say we are very excited about sharing new Friends of Alice Ivy music! It's always difficult to imagine how our work will sound before we record it as so many new ideas come to life in the studio...however we can say that the new songs are very much a return to the whimsical, ethereal pop that characterised "The Golden Cage and its Mirrored Maze"...and working on the new album has been fun after the cold, electronic melancholia of "The Last Days of Fenwyck". The new songs are also a little more organic than those on "Fenwyck", so we're also hopeful of an eventual return to the realm of live performances...fingers crossed! :-) We will post more as everything takes shape! Thanks for sticking with us through the silence. Love, Amps & Kylie x |
22nd November 2017 "As time progresses, we are finding that we are having a very strange relationship with the “Fenwyck” album". An interesting quote from Kylie from our latest interview with European mainstay, Side-Line. We are so very grateful to Stephane for his wonderful and intriguing lines of enquiry! :-) Thank you Stephane! http://www.side-line.com/click-interviewʼ-with-friends-of-alice-ivy-we-operate-very-much-on-instinct/ Love, Amps x |
29th September 2017 We were interviewed by Slovenia's "Terra Relicta" a few weeks ago. We're generally quite circumspect about interviews, but Tomaz did such a wonderful job that we shared lots of things with him about what motivates us to create the weird and otherworldly music that we make! We are so grateful to Tomaz for his interest in our music, his beautiful words and his support!! Enjoy!! Thank you Tomaz!! 16th September 2017 I've been working through our band photo archives this morning and discovered these great photos taken by Mandy Misfit of our live performance at the Bloodlust Ball back in August 2014. This was around the time of the release of our album 'The Golden Cage and its Mirrored Maze' . I recall we opened with 'The Aerial Mariners' and it went off! Weirdly, I don't believe we have ever shared these great photos before! Love, Kylie & Amps x |
13th September 2017 We were recently interviewed by one of Italy's finest darkwave zines, Darkroom Magazine, about Friends of Alice Ivy, our new album "The Last Days of Fenwyck", Ostia and a bunch of other "stuff". The interview is in Italian, but if you are a conversant in Italian, or have a vast deal of faith in Google Translate, you can read our ramblings here: http://www.darkroom-magazine.it/ita/103/Recensione.php?r=3878 Big, huge and mega thanks to Roberto Alessandro Filippozzi for his kind words and incisive questions!! :-) Grazie Roberto!! 2nd July 2017 "Our duo from Melbourne has been hiding for the past 3 years and now unveils a new sound, a new direction. Fans of nice music like Dead Can Dance will still be very enthusiastic, so don’t worry...dream about heavenly things...". We are so thrilled with this review of "The Last Days of Fenwyck" from Belgium's SnoozeControl. :-) http://snoozecontrol.be/english/7099/ |

21st May 2017 This weekend "Wycca" hit 1,000 views on YouTube! We just wanted to say a big "thank you" to everyone that has enjoyed this lovely song and a MASSIVE "thank you" to everyone that has bought our new album, "The Last Days of Fenwyck". We're overwhelmed by the response to both the video and the album and we're so grateful for the kind, lovely and encouraging feedback we have received. Love, Kylie & Amps. xxx 30th April 2017
Tomorrow sees the release of Friends of Alice Ivy's first album in nearly three years, "The Last Days of Fenwyck". We are extremely proud of and excited by its release after a long period of writing, demoing and recording. We returned to Toyland Studios in Melbourne in February, putting the work into the capable hands of producer Adam Calaitzis, and it features contributions from cellist Ellie Walker, vocalist Frances Catherine, and features wonderful artwork by Robert Wiltshire. For all intents and purposes, it's a concept album; an observation of a world in flux, seen predominantly through the eyes of the eponymous Fenwyck, a sage stag deer who represents a mysterious past. The album contains six songs that combine Friends of Alice Ivy's whimsical neoclassicism with newly introduced elements of electronica and beats. It's a strange, beautiful and otherwordly album...we hope you will love it. It's available from our shop on this site or digitally through iTunes, Bandcamp, Amazon etc. A limited edition of 100 is available; this comes with a beautiful little lyric booklet and is only available from our online store. We do hope to stage a special performance of "The Last Days of Fenwyck" in Melbourne in the coming months. Details of this show will be announced as soon as possible. Thank you for your support; please let us know what you think of our new album. Kylie & Amps x |
